Will smith Dropping a-bomb shell at the Oscar awards.
Smith has built his career on being charming on television and off, from a family-friendly rapper to a sitcom star on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and eventually a box office juggernaut.
One of the reasons many originally lauded him as his wife's "protector" after he slapped Rock after the comedian and actor made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's close-cropped hair from the Oscars stage.
"Jada, I love you, 'G.I. Jane 2,' can't wait to see it. "Jada 'G.I. Jane 2,' I adore you, and I can't wait to see it,' "While presenting the award for best documentary, Rock stated.
"Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth!" Smith yelled as he stepped on stage, struck Rock, marched back to his seat, and raged at the comic.
Rock may or may not have been aware that Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, a kind of hair loss caused by an immunological response." Smith should be celebrating his win for best actor for his portrayal in "King Richard," which occurred just moments before the smack.
However, Smith's actions that night have overshadowed this, and studios may be hesitant to collaborate with him or, at the very least, postpone planned collaborations.
"The Oscar incident broke a carefully cultivated 30-year image of affable, innocent, and always-on movie star appeal," according to Forbes' Scott Mendelson.
Much looks to hinge on Smith's future actions, after he formally apologized to Rock and resigned from the Academy.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed days after the Oscars that it had "started disciplinary processes" against Smith.
While Smith has already resigned from the Academy, the organization's president, David Rubin, said in a statement Friday that the organization "will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy's Standards of Conduct, in advance of our next scheduled board meeting on April 18."
Permanent expulsion and/or any other action considered appropriate by the Academy's bylaws and/or standards of behavior could be taken.
