BLACK COFFEE, A SOUTH AFRICAN DJ, HAS CREATED HISTORY BY WINNING A GRAMMY AWARD.

Nkosinathi Maphumulo, better known by his stage name Black Coffee, a South African DJ, is the first African DJ to win a Grammy. On Monday, April 4th, 2022, this successful DJ took home the award for best dance/electronic album at the 64th Grammy Awards.

This is the first time in the category that a South African producer has won or been nominated. DJ Black Coffee, a South African music producer, won Best Dance/Electronic Album, beating out competitors such as Major Lazer and Ten City, with his seventh studio album, Subconsciously, released in 2021. Diplo, Pharell Williams, Usher, Sabrina Claudio, and Msaki were among the guests on the 12-track album, which was published in February 2021.

Dj Black Coffee celebrated this momentous moment with his first-born son, both accepting the award in white suits on stage. “I just won a Grammy, first nomination, first Grammy, incredible!" exclaimed the DJ as he accepted the Grammy award. The Grammy winner expressed his gratitude to God for the gift of music and the opportunity to share it with the world while also helping to cure certain souls.

It was a very proud moment for the Dj as all the people of South Africa were already in the streets of Twitter congratulating Nkosinathi. “A little boy named Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo from the KZN province grew up to become a Grammy winner on 03.04.2022” is what a true fan posted on Twitter.
